ONLAYS AND CROWNS

STRENGTHENING WEAKENED TEETH FOR LONGEVITY

Onlays and crowns are both used to protect weak teeth. In most scenarios an onlay is better but we still frequently use crowns, especially when replacing old and broken crowns, removing decay from under an old crown, or for cosmetic improvements to old crowns.

Onlays are often required when removing an old filling which is deteriorating over time and/or decay has developed underneath. In this scenario so much tooth structure has been lost that something needs to be made to rebuild and strengthen the tooth. We also use onlays if the tooth around the filling has cracked or has a risk of fracture.
